Report: Molina received calls from Yankees, Mets
Yadier Molina's list of free-agent suitors continues to grow and includes both teams from the Big Apple.
The veteran catcher recently received calls from the New York Yankees and New York Mets, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
The Yankees have Gary Sanchez and Kyle Higashioka on their 40-man roster, but Sanchez struggled last season and Higashioka has spent much of his time in the big leagues as a back-up.
The Mets are looking for a starting catcher after declining 2021 options on Wilson Ramos and Robinson Chirinos.
Molina is also drawing interest from the St. Louis Cardinals, plus three-to-four other teams, Heyman reports. He added the Cardinals are the likely favorite to sign the nine-time Gold Glove winner.
Molina has played his entire career with St. Louis.
The 38-year-old catcher is seeking a two-year deal after one of his more trying seasons in 2020. He hit .262/.303/.359 with 16 RBIs in 42 games while also testing positive for COVID-19.
