St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Dakota Hudson will undergo Tommy John surgery Monday and could miss the 2021 season, president of baseball operations John Mozeliak announced, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The 26-year-old was removed from a game on Sept. 17 and placed on the injured list with what was originally described as a forearm strain after X-rays came back negative.
A team doctor examined Hudson on Wednesday and he sought a second opinion. It was then determined he would need surgery.
The Tennessee native was enjoying a terrific season before suffering his injury, authoring a 2.77 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over eight starts.
