Athletics agree to deal with Jake Lamb

The Oakland Athletics are signing former All-Star third baseman Jake Lamb, the team announced Monday.

The 29-year-old was designated for assignment by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday after hitting .116/.240/.140 with 17 strikeouts in 18 games.

Lamb was one of Arizona's most productive hitters before injuries limited him to just 134 total games across the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He amassed 59 homers, 61 doubles, and 196 RBIs between 2016 and 2017.

The Athletics have a big void to fill at third base with Gold Glover Matt Chapman out for the remainder of the season.

In addition to adding Lamb, the club has placed right-hander Frankie Montas on the paternity list, named righty James Kaprielian the 29th man for Monday's doubleheader, and transferred left-hander A.J. Puk to the 45-day injured list.
