Chicago Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks will get the team's Opening Day start against the Milwaukee Brewers on July 24, manager David Ross announced, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers.

Hendricks will be followed by Yu Darvish, Ross added.

It will be the first Opening Day start for the 30-year-old Hendricks, who was 11-10 with a 3.46 ERA in 30 starts last season.

Ross said he chose Hendricks over Darvish because the former is further along in his buildup toward the first regular-season game, according to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune.

Hendricks has been one of Chicago's most reliable starters since debuting for the club in 2014. He's 63-43 with a 3.14 ERA and 3.53 FIP in 966 innings pitched.

He won the ERA title and finished third in National League Cy Young voting in 2016.
