Betts: 'Baseball did not do a good job' responding to George Floyd's death

Mookie Betts isn't impressed with Major League Baseball's response to George Floyd's death in police custody in May and how it contributed to the conversations surrounding racial injustices and the Black Lives Matter movement in the weeks that followed.

"I think baseball did not do a good job with that," Betts said Monday, according to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times.

The 2018 American League MVP said his goal is to help bring the game to the Black communities across the country, according to Michael J. Duarte of NBC Los Angeles.

MLB released a statement nine days after Floyd's death, saying "our game has zero tolerance for racism and racial injustice."

Several high-profile stars, including Jack Flaherty, Josh Bell, Giancarlo Stanton, Pete Alonso, and Andrew McCutchen, condemned racism and police brutality.
