Bellinger: Dodgers 'did it the right way' amid Astros, Red Sox allegations

The Los Angeles Dodgers came up short in 2017 and 2018, losing the World Series in back-to-back years to the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox.

In recent months, the Astros and Red Sox both came under league investigation for allegedly using electronics to illegally steal signs. It's possible that Boston and Houston's sign-stealing methods affected the outcomes of their most recent championship campaigns.

Cody Bellinger was a member of the Dodgers in '17 and '18 and recently offered his opinion about the situation.

"Honestly, we're curious to see what happens," the 2019 National League MVP replied Sunday when asked about the Astros and Red Sox allegations, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez. "It sucks, man. We were close, but we did it the right way."

Houston's intricate system, which was confirmed by pitcher Mike Fiers in a November report, apparently involved the aid of an outfield camera and the banging of trash cans to alert Astros hitters of what pitch was coming their way.

Meanwhile, Boston apparently used video replay rooms to illegally steal signs in 2018. The Red Sox reportedly hand-delivered pitch sequences gathered from the video-room monitors to their dugout, which were then relayed to hitters on the field.

In 2017, the Dodgers were favored to win their first World Series since 1988, but they ultimately fell to the Astros in seven games.

The following season, L.A. lost the Fall Classic to Boston in five games.

"We could've won it if things could've gone our way," Bellinger said of the two World Series losses. "But it is what it is, man. You really can't look back on it anymore. We'll see what happens, what (MLB commissioner Rob) Manfred wants to do. We'll see."
