Report: Chirinos reunites with Rangers on 1-year, $6.75M contract

The Texas Rangers and free-agent catcher Robinson Chirinos are in agreement on a one-year contract that includes a club option for 2021, a source told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Chirinos will earn $5.75 million in 2020, while the Rangers' option for 2021 is worth $6.5 million with a $1-million buyout, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

The 35-year-old reportedly re-joins the Rangers after a one-year stint with the Houston Astros. He slashed .238/.347/.443 with 17 home runs in 114 contests for the Astros in 2019 following six campaigns with Texas.

The reported signing is the latest in a string of productive moves by the Rangers this offseason. Texas has also added right-handers Corey Kluber, Kyle Gibson, and Jordan Lyles, and is reportedly among the finalists to sign outfielder Nicholas Castellanos.
