Toronto Blue Jays switch-hitting first baseman Justin Smoak is garnering interest from multiple teams ahead of Wednesday's trade deadline.
The Tampa Bay Rays are intrigued by the prospect of adding Smoak just days after acquiring infielder Eric Sogard from the Blue Jays, according to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith.
Additionally, the Cleveland Indians and Philadelphia Phillies are among a collection of other teams kicking the tires on the veteran slugger, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Smoak, 32, entered the league full of potential but posted underwhelming numbers prior to joining the Blue Jays in 2015. A touted prospect with prodigious power, he topped out at 20 home runs in 2013 as a member of the Seattle Mariners.
He broke out in a big way in 2017, however, blasting 38 long balls while batting .270/.355/.529 en route to his lone All-Star appearance. While 2019 has been a little uneven, he still has 18 home runs despite missing a couple of weeks to injury.
As rumors continue to swirl, Smoak is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Kansas City Royals. Brandon Drury will start at first base in his place.
