The Arizona Diamondbacks signed outfielder Adam Jones a one-year contract on Monday, the team announced.
Jones will earn a reported $3 million in 2019, sources tell Jeff Passan of ESPN. He can also earn an additional $2 million in incentives, reports Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports.
After spending the past 11 seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, Jones is moving to the National League for the first time. He'll slot into a D-Backs outfield rotation that already consists of David Peralta, Steven Souza Jr., and Ketel Marte.
Arizona plans to play Jones at all three outfield positions this year, shifting Marte - a career infielder who's been transitioning to center field this spring - into a super-utility role, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported Monday.
The San Francisco Giants and other unnamed teams had inquired about Jones at a salary of $2 million to $3 million earlier in the winter, but his camp was looking for more money at the time, reports ESPN's Buster Olney.
The 33-year-old Jones, a five-time All-Star, hit .281/.313/.419 with 15 home runs and 63 RBIs for the Orioles in 2018.
Over the course of his 13-year career, Jones owns a .278/.318/.456 slash line with 266 home runs and 878 RBIs.
He's also won four Gold Gloves but was one of the worst defensive outfielders in baseball during 2018, according to FanGraphs' defensive runs saved.
