Bruce Maxwell signed a minor-league deal on Tuesday to play in the Mexican League, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The former Oakland Athletics catcher - known for becoming the first player in the majors to kneel during the national anthem - is joining Monclova, reports MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
Maxwell also made headlines in October 2017 when he was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct after a woman said he pointed a gun at her.
He was involved in a separate incident in 2017, claiming he was refused service at a restaurant in his hometown of Huntsville, Ala., by a pro-Trump waiter. The waiter was adamant that Maxwell fabricated the story.
The 28-year-old slashed .240/.314/.347 with five home runs and 42 RBIs in 127 career games with the Athletics between 2016 and 2018.
