Report: Giants meet with Harper for 2nd time
The San Francisco Giants aren't giving up their pursuit of Bryce Harper just yet.
On Tuesday, Giants CEO Larry Baer and president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi met with Harper in Las Vegas for the second time in a matter of weeks, sources told Kerry Crowley of the Mercury News.
Zaidi confirmed there was "mutual interest" between the Giants and Harper after their initial meeting in early February.
The Giants reportedly planned to offer Harper a lucrative short-term deal. However, the free-agent slugger is seeking a long-term commitment and has given no indication he's willing to change that demand, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Monday.
Multiple teams have apparently offered Harper deals exceeding $300 million. The free-agent slugger is reportedly seeking a contract with a higher value than Giancarlo Stanton's $325-million arrangement.
Harper's reported meeting with the Giants followed recent ones he's had with the Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers. Philadelphia has been viewed as a front-runner to acquire the outfielder over the past several weeks.
The 2015 National League Most Valuable Player has also been linked to the San Diego Padres, Chicago White Sox, and his former team, the Washington Nationals.
