Cleveland Indians star shortstop Francisco Lindor recently suffered a right calf strain and is expected to miss the next seven-to-nine weeks of action, the team announced Friday.
The 25-year-old sustained the injury in Florida while preparing for spring training and the Indians are calling the strain "moderate," as relayed by Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com. Cleveland will open its regular season against the Minnesota Twins on March 28, which is just under seven weeks away.
Yu Chang, Max Moroff, and Eric Stamets are all internal candidates to fill in at shortstop while Lindor recovers.
Lindor, a three-time All-Star, finished sixth in 2018 AL MVP voting after slashing .288/.350/.487 with 38 home runs, 92 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases for the AL Central champion Indians.
