The New York Yankees' reported addition of veteran shortstop Troy Tulowitzki on Tuesday won't stop their pursuit of Manny Machado, as the team continues to be among the favorites to sign the star infielder, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

If the Yankees sign Machado, they could play him at third base and try to trade Miguel Andujar, or they might consider playing him at first base, Passan adds.

Injured shortstop Didi Gregorius is entering the final year of his contract, so the position could open up for Machado in 2020 if he were to sign with the Yankees.

Machado is expected to choose between the Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, and Chicago White Sox at some point in the new year after visiting with the three organizations two weeks ago.

The 26-year-old, who hit .297/.367/.538 with 37 home runs and 107 RBIs for the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers last season, is expected to earn one of the most lucrative contracts in baseball history.
