The San Diego Padres are in agreement with infielder Ian Kinsler on a two-year, $8-million deal that includes a club option, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. The deal is pending a physical.

The Padres still envision youngster Luis Urias as their second baseman, a source told Rosenthal, who reports Kinsler will play some third base while mentoring Urias and top prospect Fernando Tatis Jr., who normally mans shortstop.

The 36-year-old Kinsler has two Gold Gloves on his resume as a second baseman and his plus-10 defensive runs saved led the American League among qualified players at the position in 2018. However, he's only logged two career innings at third base.

Kinsler won a World Series with the Boston Red Sox last season after he was acquired in a July trade from the Los Angeles Angels.

The veteran hit a combined .240/.301/.380 with 14 home runs and 48 RBIs for the Red Sox and Angels in 2018.

He was reportedly being pursued by the Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles before landing his deal with the Padres.
