It may have been a late-August matinee versus the last place Baltimore Orioles, but Thomas Pannone's first major league start was a smashing success.
The 24-year-old was called upon to fill some innings in the Toronto Blue Jays' ailing rotation Wednesday afternoon, and responded by throwing seven shutout frames, surrendering just one hit along the way with three strikeouts to his name.
Pannone carried a no-no bid all the way to the seventh until he surrendered a single to Trey Mancini. After an error on an Adam Jones fly ball put runners on second and third with no outs, Pannone stymied the threat with two ground outs and a pop out to preserve the shutout.
Pannone was called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Aug. 9 and made four relief appearances prior to his impressive debut start.
