Harper unleashes late flurry to beat Schwarber in 2018 Home Run Derby

In front of his home crowd, Washington Nationals superstar Bryce Harper staged an impressive rally, unleashing a flurry of late dingers to beat Kyle Schwarber and win the 2018 Home Run Derby.

After the Chicago Cubs slugger clobbered 18 homers of his own to start the final round, Harper was put in a massive hole. With about one minute left, Harper seemed to be out of it, trailing by 10. The 25-year-old phenom then pummeled nine over the next 47 seconds to tie it, before walking it off at the beginning of his bonus time.

Harper became the third player ever to win the derby in front of his home crowd, joining Todd Frazier and Ryne Sandberg.

Hoskins became the first player ever to hit 20 dingers in the second round but was promptly eliminated in walk-off fashion by Schwarber, who became the first to hit more than 20.

The home-team hero continued his run, eliminating breakout Dodgers slugger Muncy, who seemed to slow down after a strong showing in the first round.

First Round

Hoskins' 17 homers are tied for the fourth-most by a player in the first round of their first-ever Home Run Derby, as the Phillies slugger upset the tournament's top seed.

Bregman narrowly missed tying Schwarber, blasting a line drive off of the outfield wall on his final swing, after the Cubs slugger benefited from the 30-second bonus time by clubbing a pair of dingers over 440 feet.

Muncy walked off Baez with 46 seconds remaining after the Cubs infielder crushed one of the most majestic moonshots of the evening and the longest of the entire tournament - a 479-foot blast to left field.

Harper earned bonus time on his first two home runs (a 446-foot oppo blast followed by a 441-footer), which were both longer than any of Freeman's dingers. Harper would go on to walk off Freeman without using the 30-second bonus time.
