Braves' Freeman dedicates HR to mother on anniversary of her death

Wednesday was a difficult day for Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, as it marked the 18th anniversary of his mother Rosemary's death.

The 28-year-old could easily be forgiven if his mind was elsewhere during the Braves' matinee against the New York Mets.

Instead, he put on a show that surely made his mom proud, knocking in both of his team's runs and clubbing a long solo homer in the eighth to help lead Atlanta to a 2-0 victory.

It was the perfect end to a bittersweet day for Freeman.

"I hit that one kinda high, toward the sky," Freeman told FOX Sports South's Kelsey Wingert. "That one was for my mom today."

Baseball has served as a platform for Freeman to honor his mother, who died when he was 10, on several occasions during his career. In 2017, he opted to play for Canada in the World Baseball Classic as a tribute to Rosemary, who was born and raised near Toronto.
