Left-hander Sean Manaea tossed the first Oakland Athletics no-hitter in eight years on Saturday, and was appropriately rewarded Monday as the American League Co-Player of the Week.
Manaea, 26, completely shut down one of the hottest teams in baseball, the Boston Red Sox, en route to the no-hitter, and has gotten off to an incredible start overall (1.23 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 36 2/3 innings).
He's splitting the AL honor with Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles, who had five home runs (two multi-homer performances) and eight RBIs over six games.
The 25-year-old owns a .356/.434/.713 slash line with eight home runs and 17 RBIs overall.
In the NL, Arizona Diamondbacks southpaw Patrick Corbin took home the Player of the Week award. Corbin is a perfect 4-0 through April, leads the league in strikeouts (48), and has a meager 1.89 ERA.
