Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Kendrys Morales exited Monday's game against the Baltimore Orioles with a right hamstring strain, the team's PR department confirmed to MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm.
The team initially reported it as a left hamstring strain before issuing a correction. Morales will be re-evaluated Tuesday. Manager John Gibbons said after the game that he doesn't think the injury is a big deal and remains optimistic that Morales won't need a stint on the disabled list, according to Chisholm.
Morales reached base on a single in the top of the second inning that advanced Steve Pearce to third base. Play stopped briefly after Morales limped a bit upon reaching first. He stayed in the game for a couple more plays before Yangervis Solarte replaced him on the basepaths.
Morales has primarily been used as the Blue Jays' designated hitter, but was in the field Monday night with Justin Smoak relegated to hitting duties. After Morales left the game, Solarte shifted to third base, while Josh Donaldson moved across the diamond to first.
The 34-year-old Morales is off to a slow start this season. He entered play batting .190/.250/.333 with one home run and six RBIs in seven games.
