The New York Mets reported signing of third baseman Todd Frazier on Monday has received an important seal of approval.
Gary Dunaier, who may be more popularly recognized as the "Thumbs Down Guy," appeared to be pleased with the signing when he was asked about it on Tuesday.
"I’m happy Todd Frazier will be playing in Queens this year," Dunaier told John Healy of the New York Daily News by email.
Dunaier earned national attention after giving Frazier - who was playing for the New York Yankees - a thumbs down following one of his home runs. Frazier and the Yankees adopted the gesture to celebrate their success and used it during their run to the American League Championship Series last season.
"As a Mets season ticket holder, it is my sincere hope that Todd Frazier can help inspire his new teammates in the clubhouse, and do his part on the field, to help the Mets reach the World Series and earn manager Mickey Callaway a return trip to Cleveland as the manager of the National League All-Stars in 2019."
Frazier and the Mets reportedly agreed to a two-year, $17-million contract on Monday. The 31-year-old joins a revamped Mets lineup that has also added Jay Bruce and Adrian Gonzalez in free agency and already contained Yoenis Cespedes.
