Two days after launching an investigation into allegations of domestic violence against Tampa Bay Rays catcher Derek Norris, Major League Baseball is now investigating allegations of abuse involving Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell, a league spokesperson confirmed to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat on Thursday.

Russell was accused Wednesday via social media of "mentally and physically abusing" his wife Melisa. In a since-deleted Instagram post, Melisa, who married Addison last January, insinuated that the two were breaking up, writing that "being free to be able to make your own choices for your own happiness beats being cheated on, lied to, & disrespected any day."

As the post - published during the Cubs' game against the Miami Marlins - started to gain traction, a woman identified as a friend of Melisa accused Addison of mentally and physically abusing his wife, alleging that he hit her in front of his 1-year-old children, Aiden and Mila.
