Fowler stands behind travel ban comments: 'I didn't say anything wrong'

When Dexter Fowler admitted that President Donald Trump's short-lived travel ban on civilians of seven predominantly Muslim countries personally affected him and his family, he wasn't expecting the ensuing backlash from fans.

"I didn't say anything wrong," Fowler said Monday, according to MLB.com's Jennifer Langosch. "I think it was taken out of context. I don't think people read the article. I think people made their own (headlines). The question was asked out of empathy to my family, and I appreciate that.

"If anybody is asking about my family, then I'm going to let them know that, 'Yeah, obviously it affected my family. My wife is Iranian.' ... I think it's kind of ignorant of people to just come at me like that and not read the article."

Though Fowler didn't criticize anyone with his comments - he was only quoted as saying it was "unfortunate" he was unable to see his family in Iran - some St. Louis Cardinals fans immediately ripped the club's new outfielder for not keeping quiet about his disappointment and expressing his "political views":
