Jeurys Familia was not involved in any of the New York Mets' weekend workouts, but a reason for his absence has come to light.
The Mets have excused the right-hander from pitchers and catchers workouts throughout the weekend due to his ongoing case with Major League Baseball relating to his October arrest on domestic violence charges, two sources told Ken Davidoff and Mike Puma of the New York Post.
Manager Terry Collins said Saturday that while he doesn't expect the reliever at camp on Sunday either, Familia will begin to attend workouts regularly starting Monday.
"He will be here the following day and then for the rest of the spring," Collins said Saturday, according to Davidoff and Puma.
Familia is currently under investigation by MLB after reportedly getting into an altercation with his wife Bianca Rivas on Oct. 31. Though assault charges against Familia were later dropped, the Mets reliever is still said to be facing a minimum 30-game ban from the league for the incident.
Commissioner Rob Manfred said earlier in February a decision on Familia's punishment would come down before Opening Day on April 3.
