The glove and cleats worn by former Boston Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner from the day he made one of the most historic errors in baseball history will be put up for auction.
Buckner's autographed black MacGregor model glove, as well as the cleats he wore when a Mookie Wilson ground ball rolled through his legs during Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, will be auctioned by Goldin Auctions, according to ESPN's Darren Rovell.
"This is one of the most famous gloves in baseball history," said Goldin Auctions president Ken Goldin. "The only one I could think of that would be more famous is the glove that Willie Mays wore for his famous catch at the Polo Grounds, and that has never surfaced."
Goldin believes the glove and cleats may sell for six times the value of the ball that rolled through Buckner's legs. The ball was sold by actor Charlie Sheen to songwriter Seth Swirsky for $64,000 in 2000. Swirsky turned around and sold it 12 years later for $418,250.
The minimum bid for the glove is $25,000. The auction opens Oct. 10 and will close Oct. 29.
