Emily Austen, a sideline reporter for FOX Sports Florida who covers the Tampa Bay Rays and Orlando Magic, isn't scheduled to work any of the network's upcoming broadcasts after making racist and anti-Semitic remarks Thursday during an appearance on Barstool Sports' daily rundown.
Throughout the 35-minute video - which was broadcast live on Facebook - Austen repeatedly called Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love "a little bitch" while making derogatory remarks about Chinese, Mexican, and Jewish people.
When discussing a self-proclaimed undocumented girl who had recently received a scholarship to the University of Texas by virtue of her 4.5 GPA, Austen said she "didn't even know Mexicans were that smart" before noting that "(the) Chinese guy is always the smartest guy in math class." Moments later, she noted that her Jewish customers "would complain and bitch about everything" when she was a server in Boca. The complete video can be found below. In a statement provided to Deadspin on Friday morning, FOX Sports Florida senior vice president Steve Tello condemned Austen's comments and attempted to distance her remarks from the network:
We were made aware that Emily Austen appeared in a social media video unaffiliated with FOX Sports in which she made insensitive and derogatory comments. She was not speaking on behalf of FOX Sports, nor do we condone any of the statements she made in the video. Emily has been advised that her comments were unacceptable, and she is not scheduled to appear on any upcoming FOX Sports Florida or FOX Sports Sun broadcasts.
