Say what you will about Jose Bautista, but the man never lacks in self-confidence.

The Toronto Blue Jays outfielder spoke briefly about his decision to appeal the one-game suspension he was handed Tuesday for his role in Sunday's fracas with the Texas Rangers, and sounded convinced that the ban will ultimately be overturned.

"I think that I have good enough reasons to (appeal)," he told reporters following Toronto's 12-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. "I'm not just appealing it for the sake of appealing it."

The 35-year-old added that he wouldn't be commenting further on the issue "until after the process is over."

Despite not wanting to talk much about his case, Bautista did offer a bit of insight into his feelings on the other suspensions handed down. He remained coy with his words, but suggested that the other bans have him feeling positive.

"I think there's precedents set in the past and they should be respected," Bautista said. "I'm sure the people in charge did their homework, while at the same time, maybe giving (the player) a little bit of substance.

"That's why I feel so confident in my appeal."
