Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has been named the Italian national team's player of the year for the Pallone Azzurro 2015.

Verratti, a defensive midfielder by trade, won the vote by three percent, beating out Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and Lazio winger Antonio Candreva for this individual accolade.

The winner is voted on by subscribed members of the national team. Manchester United right full-back Matteo Darmian was the previous winner in 2014, while Buffon won the award back in 2013.
