O'Ward was fastest in opening practice for the Bommarito Automotive Group NTT IndyCar Series race at World Wide Technology Raceway on Saturday. He turned a fast lap of 172.696 mph.
Analysis:
This opening session on the 1.25-mile Gateway oval would see a lot of laps as teams shook down their machines for Sunday's race. O'Ward would top the scoring pylon after time expired as he edged Alex Palou for the fastest lap of the track. They would beat out the two Meyer Shank Racing Hondas of Felix Rosenqvist and Marcus Armstrong. O'Ward looks like a strong challenger for pole position later Saturday at WWTR.
