Real Madrid triggers buy-back clause to reacquire Morata from Juventus
Alvaro Morata is heading home.
Real Madrid put an end to one of the summer's most protracted transfer sagas Tuesday, confirming it will indeed exercise its buyback option on the Spanish striker, thus ending his time at Juventus.
"Real Madrid C.F. have informed Juventus FC of their decision to salvage the federative rights on the player Alvaro Morata, who will join up with the first team for preseason training under the command of Zinedine Zidane," read a brief statement from Los Blancos.
Morata, 23, joined Juventus two seasons ago, but his move included a clause that would allow Real Madrid to bring him back to the Santiago Bernabeu for a fee believed to be €30 million.
The pacey striker, who made a habit of finding the net in crucial moments during his first season in Italy, has been one of the most sought-after names in the transfer market, as Madrid has reportedly considered the possibility of bringing him back simply to sell him off to the highest bidder.

The club's statement, brief as it is, suggests he will be a part of manager Zinedine Zidane's squad this coming season.
Coming off a 12-goal campaign with Juventus in 2015-16 in which he spent the majority of the year coming off the bench, Morata will certainly be hoping a strong showing at Euro 2016 with Spain translates into a starring role with the reigning Champions League king.
