The BC Lions received quarterback Dane Evans from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick in 2024, the team announced on Thursday.

"We are thrilled to add someone of Dane's caliber to our quarterback room," Lions co-general manager and head coach Rick Campbell said in a statement. "You can never have enough proven veterans at QB."

BC made it clear that Evans will compete for the No. 2 job behind Vernon Adams Jr. next season.

"Vernon Adams Jr. is our guy and our starter," Campbell added.

Evans racked up 3,883 yards through the air to go along with 16 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in 17 games last year.

The 29-year-old joins the Lions after dressing for 63 games in Hamilton from 2018-2022. He threw for 8,807 yards, 45 touchdowns, and 34 interceptions during his tenure with the Ticats.

Evans played a crucial role in helping Hamilton earn a spot in both the 107th and 108th Grey Cups.

The Oklahoma native appeared to be the odd man out after Hamilton traded for and signed Bo Levi Mitchell to a three-year deal this offseason.

Dominique Davis and Vad Lee are also in the running for BC's backup job.
