Following a match where only four of the tournament-high 54 fouls resulted in bookings, James Rodriguez isn't hesitating to let his feelings be known regarding the sketchy officiating.
Brazil committed 31 fouls while Colombia committed 23, but both sides only received two yellow cards. A number of reckless challenges also went unpunished.
"Carlos Velasco Carballo didn't help a lot," said Rodriguez after Los Cafeteros' 2-1 loss. "I think the referee influenced the game a lot, but that is how it is and we need to look forward."
Few would argue that Colombia weren't on the end of some questionable decisions. However, the officiating also put a dent in Brazil's World Cup campaign. Had Carballo ensured that the violence didn't get out of hand too early, Juan Camilo Zúñiga's challenge on Neymar may never have happened and the Brazilian superstar could have continued playing in the tournament.
