VIDEO: Italy's Marchisio sent off on straight red card

Needing a draw with Uruguay to secure their advancement to the knockout stage, Italy's task suddenly got much harder with the sending off of midfielder Claudio Marchisio for this challenge:
Marchisio was shown a straight red. It was surprising, as the challenge didn't necessarily appear to warrant such a harsh penalty in real-time. Replays showed Marchisio raked his cleats on his opponent's leg, however, and he did it right in front of the referee, to boot.
