Canada men's national team head coach Jesse Marsch believes Alphonso Davies will feature at the World Cup but doubts he'll be available for the start of his country's campaign.
"I think Alphonso will play in the World Cup," Marsch told reporters Monday.
"I don't think he'll be ready quite on June 12, but we'll see," the national team boss added, referring to Canada's opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto.
Davies, 25, appeared to suffer his latest hamstring injury during the second leg of Bayern Munich's Champions League elimination to Paris Saint-Germain on May 6. It was the latest in a succession of similar setbacks for the Canada captain since returning from a nine-month layoff in December 2025 after tearing his ACL.
Davies hasn't played for Canada since sustaining that injury during a CONCACAF Nations League fixture in March 2025.
Marsch said Davies would join the team in Edmonton on Sunday after discussions with Bayern Munich about the player's rehabilitation.
"The best thing for him was to continue his initial recovery treatment until the 28th (Thursday), then we're giving him a few days to get away," Marsch said. "Then, he'll be joining us on the 31st, and we'll pick up his rehab from there and try to put him in a position to physically succeed and to be part of our team."
Marsch added: "It'll be a real boost to have him back in the group, and we'll be pushing to get him fit and strong and healthy so he can contribute to our matches."
Davies is part of a 32-man roster that will be trimmed down to a final 26-man World Cup squad on Friday. The national team included other players with injury concerns, like Promise David and Moise Bombito, in the training camp in Charlotte, N.C., that started Monday. The group then moves to Edmonton ahead of its pre-World Cup friendlies against Uzbekistan (June 1) and the Republic of Ireland (June 5).
