Shaun White has withdrawn from the slopestyle event at the Sochi Olympics, opting to focus his efforts at winning gold in the halfpipe competition.
"After much deliberation with my team, I have made the decision to focus solely on trying to bring home the third straight gold medal in halfpipe for Team USA," White said, according to USA Today.
"The difficult decision to forego slopestyle is not one I take lightly as I know how much effort everyone has put into holding the slopestyle event for the first time in Olympic history, a history I had planned on being a part being a part of."
White has battled injuries in the lead up to the competition and was the only American attempting to compete in both events.
The man previously known as the 'flying tomato' had voiced his concerns regarding the rigors of the slopestyle course.
"Definitely [have] concerns about the course. It's been interesting to see how it's developed and changed over the past few days. I guess the big question is if it will continue to change."
