The Los Angeles Sparks fired head coach Lynne Roberts on Friday, sources told Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.
Los Angeles went 37-51 over two seasons under Roberts and failed to make the postseason in either campaign. The Sparks' 36.4 winning percentage this year was also the fourth-worst mark in franchise history.
The 51-year-old's dismissal spells another significant change for the Sparks after franchise legend and 11-time All-Star Nneka Ogwumike announced in August that she'll retire at season's end. Sparks GM Ariana Andonian, hired earlier in September, will now search for the team's fifth different coach since it last made the playoffs under Derek Fisher in 2020.
Roberts took charge of the Sparks ahead of the 2025 season after nearly a decade at Utah. The former Pac-12 Coach of the Year led the Utes to the Sweet Sixteen in 2023, the program's best NCAA Tournament finish since making the Elite Eight in 2006.
