The WNBA has expanded to 15 teams for the 2026 season, adding the Toronto Tempo - the league's first Canadian team - and the Portland Fire. While neither club is expected to be particularly competitive in its inaugural campaign, the Golden State Valkyries made the playoffs in their debut season in 2025.

Let's focus on the teams that have a chance to contend and the players in the MVP conversation.
The Liberty are unsurprisingly the favorites. The 2024 champions boast a stacked roster featuring Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart, two of the top-five MVP candidates (although Ionescu will miss at least the first two weeks of the season with an ankle injury). They also have Jonquel Jones, who averaged 13 points per game last season, and signed 16-point-per-game scorer Satou Sabally.
Caitlin Clark's Fever will always be in contention as long as she stays healthy. They added Tyasha Harris, upgrading their guard depth in case Clark misses time again. Aliyah Boston inked an extension, and Kelsey Mitchell re-signed. Clark didn't play in the Fever's postseason run last year, but they were one win away from the Finals.
The Aces won three of the past four titles. It's surprising to see them with the third-best odds after bringing back virtually the same team that hoisted the trophy last fall.
While the Lynx's odds slipped after losing two starters, the Dream are trending in the opposite direction. Atlanta won a franchise-record 30 games last season and acquired Angel Reese this offseason. The Dream could be a sleeper to win it all.
The Fever, propped up by the Clark boom, are the most popular pick to win the title by total bets and money wagered on theScore Bet. The Liberty and the Aces are the second- and third-most popular choices.
WNBA MVP odds
| Player | Odds |
|---|---|
| A'ja Wilson | +175 |
| Caitlin Clark | +300 |
| Napheesa Collier | +1000 |
| Breanna Stewart | +1200 |
| Sabrina Ionescu | +1600 |
| Alyssa Thomas | +2000 |
| Paige Bueckers | +2000 |
| Kelsey Plum | +2200 |
| Allisha Gray | +2500 |
A'ja Wilson won three of the last four MVP awards. The Aces star led the WNBA in points (23.4 per game) and blocks (2.3) and was second in rebounds (10.2) last season. She might have real competition in Clark, who only appeared in 13 games last season but was one of the league's most impactful players as a rookie in 2024.
On a competitive squad, Clark will have the wins, statistics, and notoriety to win her first MVP. Bettors seem to agree: The league's most popular player has received over 30% of MVP bets and nearly 50% of the money wagered on the honor.
Liberty co-stars Ionescu and Stewart will both be in contention for the award. Stewart's won it twice, most recently in 2023.
Napheesa Collier was second in scoring last season and is consistently in the MVP mix but has never won the award. Paige Bueckers is another popular pick after being the WNBA's fifth-leading scorer in her rookie season. She's received the third-most bets to win MVP, while Wilson's garnered the second most. Although Bueckers should take a leap in her sophomore campaign, the Wings' performance could hurt her candidacy. They missed the playoffs last season, and the award typically goes to a player on one of the league's best teams.
