This shift has more to do with the number of key injuries the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/21" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/21">Rams</a> suffered Sunday night than anything Arizona did in Week 1.</p><p>Los Angeles will be without star wideout <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/188318" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/188318">Puka Nacua</a>, starting left tackle <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/71668" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/71668">Joe Noteboom</a>, and starting left guard <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/188169" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/188169">Steve Avila</a> - all three are on the IR. <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/44321" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/44321">Rob Havenstein</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/100161" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/100161">Kevin Dotson</a>, the team's starting right tackle and guard, were also banged up against the Lions and are questionable for Week 2.</p><p>That said, the Rams are 13-2 straight up and 12-2-1 against the spread versus the Cardinals since head coach Sean McVay took over in 2017. </p><p>Additionally, the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/20" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/20">Commanders</a> moved from 3-point to 1.5-point favorites despite receiving 80% of the wagers and 58% of the handle. The latter is questionable with an ankle injury. Although Miami relies on the passing game with its elite outside weapons, missing two running backs could hurt. Tagovailoa's passing yards prop is 268.5, while Allen's is 247.5.</p><p><strong>Player to watch</strong></p><p>Getting rid of <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/65482" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/65482">Stefon Diggs</a> sparked questions about Buffalo's receivers. The club drafted <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/199774" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/199774">Keon Coleman</a> early in the second round as a replacement. Coleman led Bills receivers in targets and receptions in Week 1, hauling four catches for 51 yards. His receptions prop is 3.5, and his receiving yards prop is 43.5. He's +235 to score a touchdown.</p><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/83498" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/83498">Tyreek Hil</a>, Tagovailoa's top target, had seven receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown in a win over the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/16" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/16">Jaguars</a>. His props this week are 6.5 receptions and 96.5 receiving yards. He's -120 to find the endzone. Detroit is loaded offensively with studs everywhere. The Lions aren't a defensive juggernaut, but they should present a greater challenge than Washington. </p><p><strong>Player to watch</strong></p><p>The Lions have a host of playmakers, but <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/174005" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/174005">Jameson Williams</a> emerged as Goff's top target in Week 1. Williams led the team in targets with so much attention provided to <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/161926" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/161926">Amon-Ra St. Brown</a>. Williams had five catches for 121 yards and a touchdown.</p><p>While he should break free against the Bucs' secondary, replicating that production won't be easy. Now Cincinnati has to travel to play the Super Bowl favorites. The <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/6" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/6">Chiefs</a> also have a rest advantage after not playing since last Thursday.</p><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/97638" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/97638">Joe Burrow</a> looked off in his return from injury. It doesn't help that his best receiver, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/161655" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/161655">Ja'Marr Chase</a>, was sidelined during training camp because of a contract dispute and that wideout <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/115870" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/115870">Tee Higgins</a> is out with an injury.</p><p>Oddsmakers aren't giving up on the Bengals after one week, but Cincinnati must get Burrow in a groove to compete with Kansas City. </p><p><strong>Player to watch</strong></p><p>Rookie wide receiver <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/199737" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/199737">Xavier Worthy</a> showcased his lightning-quick speed in the Chiefs' opener. He had only two catches but recorded 47 yards and a touchdown. It's a scary thought to give <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/89514" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/89514">Patrick Mahomes</a> a receiver that explosive. Kansas City might try to feed him even more in its second game. Chicago's remarkable defense and special teams and Titans quarterback <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/188135" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/188135">Will Levis</a>' indefensible decision-making led the Bears to victory.</p><p>Williams became the first quarterback selected No. 1 overall to win his debut since David Carr in 2002. The Bears won despite Williams' poor performance, not because of it. Chicago's offense was putrid, leading the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/13" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/13">Texans</a> to jump to 6-point favorites after opening at 3.5.</p><p><strong>Player to watch</strong></p><p>How will Williams respond to a rough debut in which he completed 14 passes for 93 yards? Philadelphia should have one of the league's best offenses as long as <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/105247" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/105247">Jalen Hurts</a> doesn't consistently turn the ball over and quickly delivers it to his playmakers.</p><p><strong>Player to watch</strong></p><p>Cousins looked uncomfortable and was unwilling to move in or outside the pocket in Week 1. That's unsurprising given it was his first game back from an Achilles tear suffered last October. He threw for 155 yards and two interceptions while Atlanta's offense mustered 10 points. His passing yards prop is 227.5 against the Eagles, and he's -170 (62% implied probability) to throw a pick.</p><h3>Week 2 notes and insights</h3><ul>
<li>Although the biggest underdog (Patriots +7.5) won in Week 1, favorites reigned supreme. Favorites went 13-3 straight up and 9-7 against the spread in the opening week.</li>
<li>How's this for parity? There are no double-digit spreads in Weeks 1 or 2, signaling a relatively even playing field across the league.</li>

No. 7 <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/514" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/514">Oregon </a>defeated <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/99" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/99">Boise State</a> by three as 17.5-point favorites.</p><p>However, No. 5 <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/501" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/501">Notre Dame</a> wasn't as lucky, losing to <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/488" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/488">Northern Illinois</a> as a 28.5-point favorite in the most embarrassing loss of the weekend.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Fighting Irish succumbed to the ultimate letdown spot after defeating a ranked <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/635" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/635">Texas A&amp;M</a> squad on the road in Week 1. Although the loss isn't disqualifying with the expanded 12-team playoff, there's added pressure for Notre Dame to win out to fulfill its national title aspirations.</p><p>Once considered a virtual lock to qualify for the CFP, the Fighting Irish's odds dropped from -300 and a 75% implied probability for an at-large bid last week to +360 and a 25% chance. They can't automatically qualify with a conference championship as an independent school.</p><p>Notre Dame also went from +1600 (6% implied probability) to win the national title last week to +10000 (1%). But did oddsmakers overreact?</p><p>The Fighting Irish only have two ranked opponents remaining on their schedule: a tough <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/369" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/369">Louisville</a> team on Sept. 28 and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/676" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/676">USC</a> on the road to close the season. Notre Dame would earn a trip to the playoff if it runs the table and finishes 11-1. The Fighting Irish deserve a greater than 25% chance to make the playoff given they'll be a favorite in at least nine of their remaining 10 games.</p><p>Granted, Notre Dame must perform better to even be in the conversation. The Fighting Irish struggled to move the ball against Northern Illinois, with transfer quarterback <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/163464" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/163464">Riley Leonard</a> throwing two interceptions. And head coach Marcus Freeman has to ensure his team doesn't lay any more eggs against inferior competition. But there's still reason for optimism in South Bend, Indiana, with 10 games to go.</p><p>No. 10 <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/407" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/407">Michigan</a>'s loss wasn't an upset, but it's how the Wolverines lost to No. 3 <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/634" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/634">Texas</a>.</p><p>The Wolverines didn't just lose as 6.5-point home underdogs to a legitimate championship-contending group, they got pummeled by the Longhorns 31-12.</p><p>The honeymoon period is now over for the defending national champs. Michigan fans dispersed from the Big House before the fourth quarter in the Wolverines' first regular-season loss since Oct. 30, 2021, and their first home defeat with fans in attendance since 2019.</p><p>This is Michigan's new reality. The Wolverines no longer rule college football without Jim Harbaugh on the throne. To be fair, this was expected. They weren't the favorites to win the Big Ten this season with uncertainty surrounding their offense.</p><p>That uncertainty is gone. It's certain that Michigan's offense, specifically its quarterback play, is atrocious. <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/168297" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/168297">Davis Warren</a>'s incompetence as a passer is more evident every time he drops back to throw. It's hard to imagine <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/172128" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/172128">Alex Orji</a>, whom Warren beat out for the starting job, would be much better.</p><p>Texas has a strong defense, but Michigan's offense didn't exactly thrive against <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/245" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/245">Fresno State</a> in Week 1. The Wolverines have many opportunities to prove they belong in the playoff picture, but it's hard to overcome egregious quarterback play. Plus, their schedule features USC, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/514" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/514">Oregon</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/507" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/507">Ohio State</a>. They'll be eliminated from the playoff if they lose two of those games.</p><p>That's why Michigan jumped from -120 to make the playoff before the season to +600 after its loss to Texas, giving the team a 14% chance of qualifying. They attracted the most moneyline tickets and handle of any team Sunday. Cincinnati was -425 on the moneyline against the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/3" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/3">Patriots</a>, giving the team an 80% implied probability of winning. Yet the Patriots upset the Bengals in <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/97638" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/97638">Joe Burrow</a>'s first game back from a wrist injury suffered last November.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Burrow's return was as ugly as the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/18" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/18">Giants</a>' alternate uniforms. He threw for 164 yards and led the offense to just 10 points. <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/161655" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/161655">Ja'Marr Chase</a> had six receptions for 62 yards despite missing training camp while pursuing an extension, but a dark cloud will preside over the Bengals' offense until the dispute is resolved.</p><p>Assuming a deal eventually gets done, Bengals fans shouldn't be concerned with a Week 1 loss. Cincinnati is 1-4 in Week 1 since Burrow debuted in 2020.</p><p>The Bengals began the 2022 season 0-2 before winning 12 of their next 14 games and the AFC title. They started last season 1-3 before winning four straight and re-emerging in the playoff picture, only to have Burrow's injury halt their hopes of a Super Bowl return.</p><p>While Cincinnati knocked thousands out of survivor pools Sunday, it's a great time for Bengals believers to pounce. Cincinnati moved from +1300 to +1600 to win the Super Bowl and from +150 to +225 to win the AFC North.</p><h3>Rookie debuts gone wrong</h3><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/199760" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/199760">Caleb Williams</a>' much-anticipated debut became a showcase for the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/25" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/25">Bears</a>' potent defense rather than an opportunity for Chicago to show off its shiny new toy. </p><p>Like when a student gets an A on a group project they contributed nothing to, Williams was credited with a win after throwing for 93 yards on 14-for-29 passing. He was the only quarterback to throw for less than 100 yards in Week 1. Daniels led the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/20" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/20">Commanders</a> with 88 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries, soaring past his 40.5 rushing yards prop.</p><p>The <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/22" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/22">Cardinals</a> drafted <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/199753" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/199753">Marvin Harrison Jr.</a> fourth overall to be a prominent feature in their offense, but he debuted with one catch for four yards Sunday. Arizona's offense still excelled, though, scoring 28 points in a loss to the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/1" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/1">Bills</a>. Don't expect similarly weak production from Harrison moving forward.</p><p>In the Offensive Rookie of the Year market, Daniels went from +500 to +325. Williams, meanwhile, is +165 after entering Week 1 +140. He has limited starting experience but has played meaningful snaps for the Titans. Green Bay could also sign a veteran quarterback like <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/21390" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/21390">Ryan Tannehill</a>.</p><p>Whoever's under center won't have Love's skill set, meaning Matt LaFleur will have to simplify the playbook in the coming weeks.</p><p>As a result, the Packers' odds have lengthened significantly. They were +800 to win the NFC before Week 1 and are now +1800. Green Bay was +200 to win the NFC North behind the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/26" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/26">Lions</a> and is now +550 behind the Lions and Bears. The Packers had a 62% implied probability of making the playoffs, which plummeted to 35%.</p><p>The good news for Green Bay is the team doesn't have a challenging schedule in the next month. The Packers are +3.5 at home against the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/15" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/15">Colts</a> this Sunday before playing the Titans, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/28" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/28">Vikings</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/21" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/21">Rams</a>. The most concerning trend was Cousins' unwillingness to move in or outside the pocket.</p><p>The 13-year NFL veteran was supposed to be the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/29" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/29">Falcons</a>' missing piece to a talented roster. They're still the favorites to win the NFC South, but their odds lengthened from -120 to +150. Atlanta is also a +6.5 road underdog against the Eagles in Week 2.</p><p>Was Week 1 just a poor debut or the start of a troubling trend? If the residuals of a torn Achilles and Father Time simultaneously hinder Cousins' abilities, the Falcons will be glad they drafted <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/199749" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/199749">Michael Penix Jr.</a> as an insurance policy.</p><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/115040" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/115040">J.K. Dobbins</a>, another player returning from a season-ending Achilles injury, flashed his speed in Week 1. The running back exploded for 135 yards on 10 carries, including a 61-yard run.</p><p>Dobbins should have a hefty impact with the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/8" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/8">Chargers</a> under new head coach Jim Harbaugh, who notoriously loves to run the football. He went from 40-1 to 13-1 to win Comeback Player of the Year.</p><p>Finally, no newcomer had a bigger impact than <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/99272" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/99272">Saquon Barkley</a>. Barkley flew past his rushing and receiving props in his Eagles debut with 109 yards rushing and 23 receiving. He scored three touchdowns - one receiving and two running - to keep Philadelphia's offense humming through a shaky quarterback performance from <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/105247" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/105247">Jalen Hurts</a>. Barkley should continue to record monster stat lines running behind an elite offensive line and with lethal threats at receiver.</p><p>Oddsmakers posted his Week 1 rushing prop at 65.5, but there should be an immediate adjustment to reflect Barkley's role in Philadelphia's offense. Plus, the Pennsylvania native is running behind one of the NFL's best offensive lines. Barkley's rushing yards prop for the season opener is 69.5, and his receiving yards prop is 15.5. Rodgers is healthy, and New York has elite offensive weapons and a defense that should remain one of the league's best.</p><p>However, the Jets have a tough opening game on the road against the defending NFC champs. The <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/23" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/23">49ers</a> are a 4-point favorite and recently ended contract negotiations with two key pieces on their offense - <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/125339" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/125339">Brandon Aiyuk</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/14297" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/14297">Trent Williams</a>. San Francisco appears poised to return to the Super Bowl.</p><p>There's a chance this is a championship preview. The Super Bowl matchup of Jets versus 49ers pays +3500 for an implied probability of 2.8%.</p><p><strong>Player to watch</strong></p><p>This one's obvious. Rodgers returns from an Achilles injury on Monday Night Football, the forum where his injury occurred last season. The 40-year-old's arm talent and ability to read defenses better than anyone shouldn't disappear with age. However, his mobility might not be what NFL fans are accustomed to.</p><p>Defensive end <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/72905" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/72905">Leonard Floyd</a>'s tackle led to Rodgers' Achilles bursting. He played for the Bills last season but now suits up for the 49ers. Luckily for Rodgers, the Jets bolstered their offensive line to ensure he has more protection. New York will also rely on its running game led by <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/174033" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/174033">Breece Hall</a>. However, this is a new year and a more talented Nebraska group.</p><h3>Iowa State @ No. 21 Iowa (-3, O/U 35)</h3><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/306" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/306">Iowa</a>'s offense might not be as dreadful as years past. That's an optimistic proclamation after 40 points against<a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/300" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/300"> Illinois State</a>, but Iowa has a healthy <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/137724" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/137724">Cade McNamara</a> under center and a new offensive coordinator.</p><p>With a 7.5 preseason win total, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/307" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/307">Iowa State</a> doesn't have the roster to contend for the Big 12. As a result, Georgia is the favorite to win its third national championship in four years.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/507" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/507">Ohio State</a> sits slightly behind the Bulldogs. Ryan Day has his best chance to capture a national title with a roster as good as any in the country. Although he's amassed an outstanding 56-8 record in five seasons, Day isn't revered because of his inability to beat <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/407" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/407">Michigan</a> and his lack of playoff success. But this could be the year Ohio State climbs the mountaintop.</p><p>Behind the two clear favorites, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/514" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/514">Oregon</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/634" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/634">Texas</a> enter the season with high expectations. Oregon moved from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten, and Texas transitioned from the Big 12 to the SEC. Oddsmakers don't anticipate a difficult adjustment for either program, but the physicality and brutal schedule in higher-level conferences could take a toll on the schools.</p><p>Alabama has its <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3045326" href="https://thescore.com/news/3045326">longest odds</a> of winning the title since 2008 with Nick Saban retired. Meanwhile, it's rare for the defending champs to tumble down the oddsboard. Yet <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/407" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/407">Michigan</a> isn't considered a favorite after coach Jim Harbaugh and quarterback J.J. McCarthy <a href="https://www.thescore.com/news/3045917">departed</a> for the NFL.</p><p>The odds prove that the Big Ten and SEC are the sport's premier conferences as they claim nine of the top 10 favorites. The lone exception is <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/501" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/501">Notre Dame</a>, an independent school.</p><p>The ACC favorite is <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/237" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/237">Florida State</a>, which just missed out on the four-team playoff last season. The Seminoles are worse than last year, but they still could win a relatively weak conference and earn a first-round bye in the playoff.</p><p>You don't have to go far down the board to find the national champ. Eight of the last nine title winners entered the season as a top-three favorite. The expanded playoff could create more chaos akin to college basketball's postseason, and it allows passionate fans across the country to talk themselves into a long-shot playoff berth. <p>The Heisman Trophy, the most prestigious individual award in college football, is almost exclusively handed out to quarterbacks. Twelve of the last 14 winners were signal-callers - <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/161668" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/161668">Devonta Smith</a> in 2020 and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/72385" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/72385">Derrick Henry</a> in 2015 were the lone exceptions. That's why quarterbacks make up the top 20 favorites.</p><p>Each of the last three winners entered the season as a top-three favorite. His 3,660 yards and 30 touchdowns at <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/509" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/509">Oklahoma</a> last season earned him the nod as the clubhouse leader. But transferring to <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/514" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/514">Oregon</a> is also part of the reason he's projected to have a monumental season.</p><p>Dan Lanning's offense is a pass-heavy, quarterback-friendly attack, as evidenced by <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/199735" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/199735">Bo Nix</a>'s success in Eugene. Nix led one of the nation's best offenses, throwing for 4,508 yards and 45 touchdowns while finishing as a Heisman finalist. If Gabriel can step in and provide similar production, Oregon will compete for a national title and the sixth-year quarterback could win the prestigious trophy.</p><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/148097" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/148097">Carson Beck</a>, meanwhile, took over for <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/188322" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/188322">Stetson Bennett</a> last season with the pressure of trying to bring <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/255" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/255">Georgia</a> a third straight national title. Beck had moments of brilliance and instances of inexperience. He should mature into the passer Georgia needs following a full year as a starter. The Bulldogs consistently have one of the best rosters in the country, so they'll contend even if Beck doesn't display Heisman-level performances. Georgia has played more games in the College Football Playoff than any other school but hasn't had a player win the Heisman Trophy since Herschel Walker in 1982.</p><p>Moving down, it's surprising to see <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/162849" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/162849">Jalen Milroe</a>'s name so high on the list, as he had a shaky 2023 campaign and was benched after early-season struggles. He was eventually reinserted as the starter and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/40" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/40">Alabama</a> ultimately won the SEC, but the title was arguably won despite Milroe, not because of him.</p><p>Milroe is an excellent rusher but an inconsistent thrower. He only threw for 2,718 yards last season, well below the numbers of a typical Heisman winner. Plus, Alabama could leave the contender circle this season after Nick Saban retired and Kalen DeBoer took over as head coach.</p><p>Milroe has received the most bets to win the Heisman at theScore Bet and ESPN Bet, followed by Dart and Gabriel. But more money has been placed on Gabriel than any other candidate.</p><p>Elsewhere, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/162552" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/162552">Jaxson Dart </a>and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/166550" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/166550">Quinn Ewers</a> remained at <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/425" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/425">Ole Miss</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/634" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/634">Texas</a>, respectively. Both quarterbacks are in the right systems with the tools to have superb seasons.</p><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/148298" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/148298">Will Howard</a> will also draw attention at <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/507" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/507">Ohio State</a>, one of the favorites to win the national title. The <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/329" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/329">Kansas State</a> transfer showcased his running ability last season and will now be leading a top offense in the country.</p><p>Chip Kelly, one of the sport's most innovative offensive minds, is likely salivating at the idea of a dual-threat quarterback. Hired by Ohio State to lead the offense, Kelly will call the plays, and his presence should benefit Howard's statistical output and Heisman bid.</p><p>A notable exclusion from the list is <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/160938" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/160938">Shedeur Sanders</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/164" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/164">Colorado</a>'s quarterback and Deion Sanders' son. He's considered one of the nation's most dynamic quarterbacks and is in the running for the No. 1 pick at the draft next spring. The Heisman, however, is awarded to a player on one of the country's top teams. Colorado has a 5.5 win total, meaning it will be difficult for Sanders to earn the honor. He's +3500 to win, tied for the 13th-best odds.</p><p>Notoriety will play a factor in the vote in an age where marketability and image are as crucial to a player's collegiate experience as on-field performance. Quarterbacks with front-facing NIL deals and consistent media appearances will have an advantage. Of course, the ultimate factor is their statistical profile and actual play. <p>Taking a team from the bottom of a division to the playoffs is a surefire way to earn NFL Coach of the Year consideration. The last two winners - Kevin Stefanski with the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/10" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/10">Browns</a> in 2023 and Brian Daboll with the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/18" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/18">Giants</a> in 2022 - did just that.</p><p>That's why <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/25" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/25">Bears</a> coach Matt Eberflus and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/8" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/8">Chargers</a> coach Jim Harbaugh find themselves atop the Coach of the Year oddsboard. Eberflus is the favorite at +850, and Harbaugh is the second favorite at +1100.</p><p>Eberflus is entering his third season roaming Chicago's sidelines. The former defensive coordinator, whose job security was in question last season, is an inadequate 10-24 overall. But the team's failures aren't all his fault. Don Shula couldn't coach Chicago's previous personnel to the playoffs.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Bears improved from three wins in 2022 to seven in 2023. Now, oddsmakers and pundits expect another huge leap. Chicago has a 52% chance of making the playoffs and is +300 to win a tough NFC North behind the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/27" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/27">Packers</a> (+225) and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/26" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/26">Lions</a> (+135).</p><p>That has nothing to do with Eberflus and everything to do with 2024 No. 1 pick <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/199760" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/199760">Caleb Williams</a>, who's projected to be one of the most gifted quarterbacks in years. If he's as good as advertised, he should immediately lift the Bears to, at the very least, relevance.</p><p>Williams' presence isn't the only reason expectations are elevated in Chicago. The Bears traded for wide receiver <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/44826" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/44826">Keenan Allen</a> and drafted wideout <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/199761" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/199761">Rome Odunze</a> ninth overall. They also signed running back <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/122859" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/122859">D'Andre Swift</a>.</p><p>Although Williams is a rookie - he's +140 to win Offensive Rookie of the Year - and deserves time, there's no excuse for the Bears to rank toward the bottom of the league in total offense like they have the past few seasons.</p><p>Eberflus is in a unique position. If Chicago makes the postseason - an unwritten requirement for a coach to qualify - voters could reward him with Coach of the Year honors, whether deserved or not. But Eberflus is on the hot seat and will surely be gone if the Bears trend in the wrong direction and Williams struggles.</p><p>Harbaugh could also bring his team from last place in the division to the playoffs. The Chargers are plus money with a 46% implied probability of making the postseason. In his first NFL season since 2014-15, Harbaugh has one of the league's best quarterbacks at his disposal.</p><p>Los Angeles has been one of the NFL's best offenses when <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/104207" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/104207">Justin Herbert</a> is under center. The problem is its defense has consistently been one of the worst, resulting in only one playoff appearance throughout Herbert's four years. Harbaugh is here to fix that.</p><p>The former 49ers head coach returned to the NFL after bolting Michigan following a national championship and cheating allegations that'll likely result in future penalties for the Wolverines.</p><p>Whatever you think about Harbaugh's quotable, unique, and dynamic personality, he wins everywhere he goes.</p><p>Harbaugh took over a broken Stanford program in 2007 and turned it into a 12-win team by the time he left in 2010. From there, he transitioned to the NFL and amassed a 44-19 record in San Francisco, including a Super Bowl appearance. His success at Michigan over the last nine years is well-documented.</p><p>Few football coaches garner interest from numerous NFL teams like Harbaugh did. He likely chose the Chargers due to Herbert's skill set and the importance of having a proven quarterback.</p><p>But Los Angeles lost some key offensive personnel, including Allen and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/81875" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/81875">Austin Ekeler</a>. Replacing their production won't be easy for Harbaugh and Herbert.</p><p>Harbaugh should earn the Coach of the Year crown if the Chargers make the playoffs following a five-win season (Herbert got injured and missed the final four weeks). However, Los Angeles shares a division with the almighty <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/6" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/6">Chiefs</a>, who have won the AFC West for eight consecutive years. <p>After escaping France to capture USA Basketball's fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/72" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/72">LeBron James</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/345" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/345">Kevin Durant</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/148" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/148">Steph Curry</a> celebrated and embraced at Bercy Arena in Paris.</p><p>They have battled as rivals and succeeded as teammates, but the three superstars who have defined this era of basketball never shared the joy of winning together until this summer. An appreciation crept in as NBA fans watched the future Hall of Famers near the end of their illustrious careers win a title - Olympic or otherwise - for perhaps the final time.</p><p>James, Curry, or Durant have won eight of the last 13 NBA championships, but would they exceed a theoretical line of 0.5 total remaining titles?</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Their organizations have failed to surround them with talent. The <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/teams/18" href="https://thescore.com/nba/teams/18">Lakers</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/teams/19" href="https://thescore.com/nba/teams/19">Suns</a> are tied for the ninth-best odds to win the title next season, while the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/teams/16" href="https://thescore.com/nba/teams/16">Warriors</a> have the 11th-best odds. Only Phoenix is significantly favored to make the postseason.</p><p>James turns 40 in December, giving him the hardest path to a ring of the three. An All-NBA selection at 39 proves he already has a step on Father Time, but the four-time MVP has shown signs of decline.</p><p>James played 71 games last season - his most since joining the Lakers in 2018 - and averaged 35 minutes per game. That led to a seventh-place finish and a first-round exit for Los Angeles.</p><p>The NBA's all-time leading scorer can't carry his team on a nightly basis anymore. <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/11373" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/11373">Anthony Davis</a> was the best Laker last campaign after an atypical healthy season where he played 76 games, his most since 2017-18.</p><p>Can the Lakers count on another injury-free season from James and Davis? Los Angeles didn't sign a free agent and made no roster improvements, taking another chance on a poorly constructed team in an increasingly talented West.</p><p>The Lakers drafted <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/121726" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/121726">Bronny James</a>, LeBron's son, this past June and signed him to a four-year guaranteed deal. Would the elder James ditch his son after essentially forcing Los Angeles to draft him?</p><p>James acknowledged he doesn't "have much time left." If that time is spent with the Lakers, his path to a title is murky.</p><p>Durant and Curry's runways are more open. Curry, 36, is the most recent champion of the three after an iconic playoff run lifted the Warriors to the crown in 2022. However, it's been downhill since then. <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/5334" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/5334">Klay Thompson</a> departed this summer, splitting up the most prominent shooting backcourt in NBA history. Golden State got marginally better, but not enough to contend for the West after missing the playoffs.</p><p>The two-time MVP's epic Olympic performance further solidified his standing as the greatest shooter ever. His combined 60 points and 17 made threes in the semifinal and final led the U.S. to gold.</p><p>Curry had a poor statistical season for his standards last campaign but is still among the NBA's best players. He needs to perform at an MVP-caliber level, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/2982" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/2982">Draymond Green</a> has to control his emotions, and the Warriors' young core must accelerate its development for Golden State to contend.</p><p>That's a lot of uncertainty entering Curry's 16th season. It's hard to imagine the four-time champion playing anywhere other than Golden State. He could be the first superstar since Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, and Dirk Nowitzki to play his entire career in one place. But Curry's best path to a fifth ring might be elsewhere.</p><p>Durant, 35, hasn't abided by the same loyalty that Curry has. He's no stranger to jumping around the league. Durant's still one of the league's best players, finishing fifth in scoring last season. He and fellow Olympian <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/37815" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/37815">Devin Booker</a> are one of the NBA's top duos, but the Suns don't have much reliable help beyond them. They're also in second-apron hell after trading for <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/11887" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/11887">Bradley Beal</a>'s dreadful contract.</p><p>Phoenix made some improvements in free agency and hired Mike Budenholzer, but it can't contend with its lack of depth. With another first-round exit, it might not be long before Durant or the Suns facilitate a breakup.</p><p>Durant has the best chance of earning a ring as the youngest of the trio. He's the most likely to switch teams and is a seamless fit in any system. A Durant-led club should be in the hunt if he's at his zenith.</p><p>However, sometimes the cliff comes abruptly in the NBA. Durant is in his 17th year and returned from a torn Achilles less than four years ago.</p><p>Durant could transition into a role player as an excellent spot-up shooter if his explosiveness and speed dwindle. His genuine love for basketball also makes it hard to see him hanging it up until the wheels fall off despite him recently saying he thinks about retirement more. He'd have the best odds of winning another championship among the three for another team or in a different role.</p><p>But it's a long shot James, Durant, or Curry will reach the sport's peak again. In many ways, the Olympics served as a swan song for the American-born legends as the next crop of young talent grabs the baton.</p><p><em>Sam Oshtry is a sports betting writer at theScore. It finished the last two regular seasons with two losses - to powerhouses <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/407" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/407">Michigan</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/507" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/507">Ohio State</a>.</p><p>James Franklin's squad has yet to emerge on the same stratosphere as the Wolverines or Buckeyes. Now it can qualify for the playoff without reaching that level.</p><p>Ohio State has the highest implied probability of making the playoff and the second-best odds to win the national title. The additions of quarterback <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/148298" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/148298">Will Howard</a> and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly should position the Buckeyes as the nation's best offense.</p><p>Michigan is due for regression following its national title and Jim Harbaugh's departure. The Wolverines made the playoff the last three seasons, but oddsmakers are giving them a 40% chance of qualifying for this year's 12-team dance.</p><p>Bettors are banking on a down year from the Big Ten's annual contenders. Michigan has the most bets to miss the playoffs, while Ohio State and Penn State have received the third- and fourth-most action, respectively.</p><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/306" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/306">Iowa</a> has the most bets to make the playoffs despite a 14% implied probability. The Ducks replaced Heisman finalist <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/199735" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/199735">Bo Nix </a>with Heisman favorite <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/138036" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/138036">Dillon Gabriel</a>, so their offense shouldn't relapse a year removed from being one of the nation's best.</p><p>But Oregon's never played a taxing Big Ten schedule. The Pac-12 was sprinkled with cakewalk opponents, so the West Coast program must adjust to challenging matchups virtually every week. Oddsmakers don't think it'll be an issue - Oregon has a 10.5 win total - but the physicality and demanding schedule could eventually take a toll on the Ducks.</p><p>The rest of the Big Ten newcomers aren't expected to perform as well in the now coast-to-coast conference. USC has the fifth-best odds to win, but it's still a long shot. That has as much to do with <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/199760" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/199760">Caleb Williams</a>' departure as it does with the move. Trojan head coach Lincoln Riley breeds and develops quarterbacks<strong> </strong>like he's making a cup of coffee, but there's some mystery surrounding presumed starter <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/162553" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/162553">Miller Moss</a>.</p><p>Washington's quarterback went to the NFL and head coach Kalen DeBoer left for Alabama. It's unlikely the Huskies replicate the success they did last year with a challenging schedule in a new conference. Regression is imminent a year after winning the Pac-12 and earning a trip to the national championship.</p><p>UCLA finished 4-5 in the Pac-12 last season, prompting Chip Kelly to abandon his role as head coach to become the offensive coordinator at Ohio State. The Bruins are tied for the third-worst odds to win the Big Ten in what will likely turn into a forgetful year for them.</p><p>While the Big Ten created a mega conference with 18 teams, the Big 12 and SEC aren't far behind with 16 schools each. <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/634" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/634">Texas</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/509" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/509">Oklahoma</a> - two powerhouse programs - left the Big 12 for the SEC, which could shift the balance of power in college football's most daunting conference.</p><figure class="article-segment--table"><div class="table-responsive"><table>

The Longhorns have a loaded roster on both sides and return quarterback <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/166550" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/166550">Quinn Ewers</a>. And they got a sneak peek of SEC football last season when they went to Tuscaloosa and knocked off No. 5 <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/40" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/40">Alabama</a>.</p><p>The Longhorns' schedule isn't that challenging despite the move to the SEC. The national title contenders' toughest tests come against Georgia and in a nonconference matchup against <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/407" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/407">Michigan</a>.</p><p>Oklahoma's in for a rude awakening. The Sooners' typically prolific offensive attack was usually enough to contend for the Big 12, despite its porous defense. But that's about to change. <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/players/184474" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/players/184474">Jackson Arnold</a>, a highly regarded quarterback without much experience, will take over under center, leaving Oklahoma with the ninth-best odds to win the conference.</p><p>Can the Sooners reshape their identity to contend with the physicality that determines SEC success?
