Liberty re-sign Breanna Stewart

The New York Liberty have re-signed two-time MVP Breanna Stewart, the team announced Saturday.

"Bringing Stewie back to the Liberty was our top priority this offseason," general manager Jonathan Kolb said. "Her impact on and off the court is immeasurable - she's not only one of the best and most accomplished players in the world, but a leader whose relentless drive is foundational to the standard we continue to build upon in New York."

Stewart helped lead the Liberty to their first championship in 2024. In two seasons in New York, she's averaged 21.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game.

Over eight seasons with the Liberty and Seattle Storm, the former UConn star has won three championships, made six All-Star Games, and collected six All-WNBA first-team nominations.

Stewart played in Unrivaled's inaugural season after co-creating the league with Napheesa Collier. She played for the Mist and scored the first basket in the 3-on-3 league's history.

Stewart was handed a core designation from the Liberty for the second straight season in January, consisting of a one-year maximum contract.

The 30-year-old reportedly underwent a procedure on her right meniscus earlier in March.

The Liberty open their season against the Las Vegas Aces on May 17.
