The Los Angeles Sparks fired head coach Derek Fisher after four seasons, the team announced Tuesday.

Assistant coach Fred Williams is taking over on an interim basis for the remainder of the 2022 campaign.

The Sparks hired Fisher in December 2018 and named him general manager two years later.

"I want to thank the L.A. Sparks organization, ownership, staff, players, and fans for the opportunity they have afforded me over the last four years as a part of this historic franchise," Fisher said in a statement. "Their support has allowed me to grow as both a coach and front office executive, and I am proud of what we have accomplished."

Fisher went 49-39 during his tenure, including a Western Conference-best 22-12 mark in 2019. However, the five-time NBA champion didn't have much postseason success, winning just 1-of-5 contests.

Los Angeles is off to a 5-7 start this season.
