Diana Taurasi is staying put.

The Phoenix Mercury re-signed the nine-time All-Star guard and 2009 MVP to a multi-year deal Monday, the team announced.

Taurasi, 38, has spent her entire 16-year WNBA career with the Mercury. She also played professionally overseas, featuring in the EuroLeague with stints in Russia and Turkey.

The three-time champion and two-time Finals MVP averaged 18.7 points, 4.5 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and shot 36.5% from deep in 19 games last season.

"As I've said before, as long as Diana wants to play in the WNBA, we want her in a Mercury uniform," general manager Jim Pitman said in a statement. "She is the heart of our franchise, the first face on our Mount Rushmore, the best winner and competitor in the women's game.

"The trajectory of our organization changed the day we drafted her 17 years ago, and we are excited she will be here into the future."

Taurasi has also been a key fixture on the United States women's basketball team since the 2004 Olympics in Sydney. She helped the national team win gold that year, followed by three consecutive first-place finishes in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

The Mercury veteran is the second notable UConn alumnus to recommit to her WNBA team in recent days. Future Hall of Famer Sue Bird reportedly agreed to re-sign with the reigning WNBA champion Seattle Storm on Sunday.
