Sue Bird will miss the remainder of the season, the Seattle Storm announced Tuesday.
Bird, the league's all-time assists leader and oldest active player at 38 years old, has not appeared in a game this campaign. After helping the Storm secure the franchise's third WNBA title in 2018, the future Hall of Famer underwent arthroscopic surgery on her left knee in May.
"While it has been difficult not to be on the court with my teammates, I am very proud of what they have accomplished this season," Bird said in a statement. "I look forward to suiting up for the Storm in 2020."
Despite being without both Bird and 2018 WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart, who tore her Achilles tendon prior to the season, the Storm still qualified for the playoffs. With three games remaining in the regular season, Seattle boasts a 16-15 record, good for fourth in the Western Conference and seventh overall.
