Bakayoko replaces Pogba in France squad

Tiemoue Bakayoko is set for a maiden France cap, and considering his displays for club, it's an entirely deserved distinction for the 22-year-old Monaco defensive midfielder.

Bakayoko will replace Manchester United's Paul Pogba in Didier Deschamps' 24-man squad after the record-breaking summer signing was forced to withdraw after picking up a hamstring concern midweek against Rostov.

The French Football Federation announced the decision with a statement on its website Saturday, with Bakayoko joining his mates to take on Luxembourg in a World Cup qualifier at Stade Josy Barthel on March 25 before playing a friendly against Spain at the Stade de France on March 28.

Ligue 1 leader Monaco now has five players in the squad, with Kylian Mbappe and Benjamin Mendy joining Bakayoko as potential debutants. Djibril Sidibe and Thomas Lemar are also in the team, with seven caps between them.

Here's a look at Deschamps' squad for the upcoming international break:

Goalkeepers: Alphonse Areola, Benoit Costil, Hugo Lloris

Defenders: Presnel Kimpembe, Laurent Koscielny, Layvin Kurzawa, Benjamin Mendy, Adil Rami, Bacary Sagna, Djibril Sidibe, Samuel Umtiti
