Luis Garrido's 4 knee ligaments injured in gruesome collision
The Houston Dynamo and the Honduran national team will be without Luis Garrido for about one year after the midfielder was on the unfortunate end of a severe injury to his right knee while on international duty in a World Cup qualifying match against Mexico.
"Garrido suffered a dislocation (of his right knee) and damaged four ligaments," Honduras' team doctor Oscar Benitez told Diez, as quoted by Tom Marshall of ESPNFC.
Mexican winger Javier Aquino lost his balance and fell on Garrido's right leg in the 38th minute, bending his knee the wrong way. Mexican doctors rushed onto the field to administer care for Garrido.
Benitez said without the help of Dr. Gilberto Reyes and Mexico's medical staff, Garrido's situation and diagnosis could have been worse. In fact, Benitez was reportedly surprised with the small amount of swelling in the knee, considering the nature of the injury, due in part to the quality of care.
As it stands now, all four of Garrido's knee ligaments - medial, lateral, anterior, and posterior cruciate - have been damaged.
