The Manchester City forward still holds a great fondness for the club where he began his professional career at just 15 - making him the youngest to debut in the Argentinian Primera Division - and again expressed his desire to end his playing days with El Rojo.

"I have already said that when my contract in England is up I am coming back to Independiente," he told reporters, referring to his contract at the Etihad Stadium that expires upon the conclusion of the 2018-19 campaign.

"I want to finish my career here."

Aguero was with the Argentina national team ahead of 2018 World Cup qualifiers in Chile and against Bolivia on home soil.
