Major League Baseball will move the World Baseball Classic from 2021 to 2023, a source told Barry Bloom of Sportico.
The league will reportedly make an official announcement following the 2020 MLB season. In May, the international tournament - originally scheduled to happen next March - was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The 2023 edition of the event is going to have a 20-team field for the first time, according to Bloom, who adds that Japan, Taiwan, Phoenix, and Miami, are probable sites for games after being selected as host locations for 2021.
New qualifiers are apparently set for 2022.
The United States won the most recent edition of the WBC in 2017.
