AC Milan is sending injured forward M'Baye Niang to a specialist in the Netherlands as the Italian club looks for a way to quicken his recovery, according to Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Frenchman suffered ankle and shoulder injuries in a car crash last week that left his health in question. Niang will visit a doctor Monday in Amsterdam to assess whether he can expect to recover in time for the Coppa Italia final on May 21.
It is the same medical consultant, professor Niek van Dijk, that operated on Stephan El Shaarawy during his injury-plagued years with the Rossoneri.
It's not clear whether surgery is required in Niang's case, but Di Marzio indicates the swelling has already gone down in the ankle area.
Reports in Italy suggest Niang could miss anywhere between 40 and 60 days of action, but the 21-year-old said after the crash that he is "ready for the rest of the season with Milan."
Regardless, the setback interrupts a breakout campaign for the striker, who has earned a starter's role under manager Sinisa Mihajlovic and scored five goals in 16 Serie A appearances.
Milan faces Juventus in the Coppa Italia final in Rome one week after the final Serie A matchday.
