The next chapter of Aleksandar Tonev's career will take place in a town with a population under 50,000 and at a club with fewer than 8,000 Twitter followers.

Frosinone Calcio, whose meteoric rise resulted in promotion to Serie A in May, announced the signing of the 25-year-old Bulgarian midfielder from Aston Villa on Thursday, bringing an end to his time at Villa Park.

Tonev, who joined Villa from Lech Poznan in 2013, spent last season on loan at Celtic, but his time at the Scottish club was marred by a seven-match ban in October for racially abusing Shay Logan of Aberdeen.
