AC Milan dismissed head coach Massimiliano Allegri and some notable boardroom figures Monday after another disappointing campaign for the Italian giants.
Club CEO Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada were also relieved of their duties.
"For the majority of this season, we were in the top two positions in Serie A, with a credible shot at competing for the Scudetto," ownership group RedBird Capital Partners said in a statement.
"The final stretch was completely inconsistent with the performance up to that point, with last night's disappointing loss in the final game turning the season into an unequivocal failure."
RedBird said the team's target was to qualify for the Champions League while competing at the top of the Serie A table. Milan finished fifth after Sunday's 2-1 home loss to Cagliari. Next season will be the second consecutive season that the Rossoneri haven't played in the Champions League. They will instead participate in the Europa League.
Former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic's popularity has waned among the club's supporters, but he was not among Monday's departures. He's expected to continue in an advisory role and will choose the new sporting director and head coach, according to soccer insider Nicolo Schira.
