AC Milan are reportedly planning a winter-window move for Manchester United doghouse dweller Eric Bailly.
The 24-year old Bailly is the latest Red Devil to find himself languishing on the bench and out of favor with mercurial manager Jose Mourinho, and could be set for a change of scenery in January, according to ESPN FC's Mark Ogden.
Bailly, who joined United in June 2016 on a £30-million transfer from Villarreal, hasn't played since a 3-2 victory over Newcastle on Oct. 6. And with the central defender's current terms set to lapse in summer 2020, his future at Old Trafford hangs in the balance.
A transfer would make sense for AC Milan, as Mattia Caldara's recent setback in his recovery from a ruptured Achilles tendon has left the clubs with just three senior central defenders in Cristian Zapata, Mateo Musacchio, and Alessio Romagnoli.
Meanwhile, Mourinho addressed United's failure to bolster the backline in the summer, and with reports linking the club to both Inter's Milan Skriniar and Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld, selling Bailly would help fund forays into the transfer market. United is also reportedly interested in selling Bailly's defensive brethren Marcos Rojo in the January window despite the Argentinian full-back signing a contract extension in March.
