Watch: Disgruntled fans shower Donnarumma with fake money
Supporters apparently displeased with Gianluigi Donnarumma's decision not to renew his contract with AC Milan threw fake U.S. dollars at the 18-year-old shot-stopper during Italy's European Under-21 Championship opener against Denmark.
As the Danish took a corner kick, fans behind Donnarumma's goal hurled bushels of cash at him. Play was temporarily suspended to clean up the mess.
Earlier this week, the teenager rejected Milan's proposal for a new contract - reportedly worth €50 million gross over five years - leading many to believe he is seeking more money from the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
While fans have not hesitated to hurl abuse at Donnarumma on social media, Sunday's incident is the first time he's had to confront reaction to the news in person.
Prior to this stunt, supporters unfurled a banner which read, "Dollarumma."
